Poodle mixes are one of the most popular dog breeds in the country. They’re fun, playful, and they have all of the traits that make them great companions. Their coats are easy to maintain, they’re intelligent, and they have a lot of energy.

However, there are only so many Poodles out there. You may be looking for something new that’s similar to a Poodle but with some differences.

What Are Poodle Mixes?

Poodle mixes are crossbreeds of Poodles and other breeds. They are typically small to medium-sized dogs with thick coats, round heads, and big eyes. Poodle mixes are very smart, playful, and energetic. Some Poodle mixes are great companions for children and families because they love attention.

Poodle mixes do not shed much so they make an excellent choice if you have allergies or asthma. Their fur is hypoallergenic which means it does not cause allergic reactions in people who are sensitive to pet dander like some other breeds such as German Shepherds or Huskies do.

Poodle Mixes #1: The Cavapoo

The Cavapoo also called a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Poodle mix, is one of the most popular Poodle mixes. This dog has the best qualities of both breeds. It’s playful, energetic, and affectionate like a Poodle; and it’s calm and easy-going like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Cavapoos are cute dogs with long coats that come in three colors: black, brown, or fawn (a lighter shade of brown). Their fur can be smooth or wavy. Cavapoos have large heads with big eyes and ears shaped like those of their parent breeds, like the Poodles’ pointy ears, and lovely tails that curl over their backs when they’re relaxed.

Because they’re so friendly, Cavapoos make great family pets. They get along well with children. One thing that makes them stand out from other mixed breeds is how hypoallergenic they are. Even though they shed hair as Poodles do, there aren’t many people allergic to Cavapoo fur because it doesn’t contain any dander (dead skin cells) to trigger allergies like very common in Poodles (which does help explain why these dogs are even more popular than just about any other Poddle mixes breed out there).

Poodle Mixes #2: The Maltipoo

A Maltipoo is a cross between a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. Their intelligence, alertness, and energy make them great companions for both adults and children.

Maltipoos have hypoallergenic coats that do not shed much or at all. They are great dogs for people with allergies to dogs because they don’t trigger asthma attacks like some other breeds can do.

The Maltipoo has long hair that usually grows until it’s about three inches long on their chest, head, back legs, and tail. The rest of their coat grows to about one inch in length except for the muzzle which is shorter than the rest of their body hair length. The muzzle is also thin compared to other Poodles mixes so it doesn’t interfere with eating food from bowls or cups like some other dog breeds do when their muzzles are too thick or too curly.

Their face has an open expression that shows off their big eyes which makes them look very cute. A Maltipoo may have blue eyes but there are also brown ones too.

Are Maltipoos Hypoallergenic? What Causes Allergies?

Are Maltipoos Hypoallergenic
Are Maltipoos Hypoallergenic

Allergies cause a lot of health problems, so knowing what triggers your allergy and avoiding them is important. According to research done by the National Institutes of Health, allergies are caused by proteins found in saliva that dogs share with us.

Hypoallergenic dogs have been around for a few decades and are wildly popular due to their popularity in the US and globally. A recent study by the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology suggests that about 10% of Americans are allergic to dogs.

There are many reasons why a dog could trigger someone’s allergies, but the best way to get information is to speak with your doctor. Most of the time, people with allergies such as dog hair cause an inconvenience in their day-to-day lives. That’s why some pet lovers look for a furry pooch who doesn’t shed balls of fur on your clothes.

One study found that dander is the bigger culprit to allergy sufferers because it doesn’t smell and individuals are more likely to notice it. Whether it’s a small or large dog, certain breeds tend to produce less dander than others. Some dogs have coats that might be better at catching the particles to keep them from getting in contact with you or your pup.

Maltipoos are often thought of as a hypoallergenic cross breed due to the influence of the Poodle genes. On top of its hypoallergenic tendencies, Maltipoos are gentle and are likely to get along with anyone with guests coming over. They don’t shed too much, so their hair will remain in good condition for smooth brushing

One of the best ways to keep your Maltipoos hair looking clean and healthy is to use a brush with soft bristles, and some nail clippers or a nail file. This way they stay comfy and will be happier than ever! Once in a while, it’s a good idea to bathe your Maltipoos hair. We recommend doing this about once every month or so for thorough cleaning.

Maltipoo for Two

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A designer dog with two of the most popular parent breeds, the Maltipoo has surely made a big stand with a tiny paw print. First bred 20 to 30 years ago in the United States and gaining in worldwide popularity, the Maltipoo is a cross between the ever regal Maltese and the super intelligent Poodle. This little charmer is among those at the top of the elite designer dog list.

Did you know?

  • Maltipoo’s even part of the same litter, can look very different from one another? They may even look the same or completely different from either of their parent breeds. The Maltipoo is generally very small, but their size, color, coat type, temperament, activity level, and overall health will vary depending on what that individual puppy has inherited from its parents.
  • Their high intelligence and sweet and gentle temperament make them great therapy dogs.
  • Though small in size, they are extremely active and require a diet that’s formulated specific for them. Make sure to consult your vet to see which food they recommend for your puppies needs.
  • This dog was bred for companionship, so they make for a great travel buddy or a stay at home sidekick.
  • Attention and affection are the two things that this breed craves more than anything. Spending time with their humans makes for a happy and obedient dog. A great pet for a first time pet owner or a family, the Maltipoo is strongly adaptable.
  • Like most small dogs however, too much time alone can cause separation anxiety which can lead to excessive barking and possible destructive behavior. They tend to get bored easily so be sure to have safe toys and chews to keep them busy.
  • These little packages of fluff and fur do not do well in extreme temperatures, regardless of which coat they inherited, so unless out for a daily stroll, it is best to keep them inside.
  • Regular grooming appointments and clipping of the nails is important to keep their coats healthy. It also very important to brush their teeth at least once weekly, as the Maltipoo is prone to gum periodontal disease.

You can’t go wrong with this sweet little pup. It is said, that once you go Maltipoo you’ll always go Maltipoo! With the proper amount of daily exercise, a healthy diet and regular grooming maintenance -you can expect to share a long happy life with your Maltipoo. Learn more by visiting premierpups.com today!
